Trial in Innsbruck
Hefty fine for fake 50s from the internet
A young Tyrolean man struck gold in an online store and had 100 deceptively genuine-looking fifty-euro bills sent to him. He has now been sentenced to time in Innsbruck Regional Court and will have to pay dearly for his crime.
The bill didn't really add up for an unemployed Tyrolean (21): The young man ordered 100 deceptively genuine-looking fifty-euro bills from an online store for 33 euros, but was then caught out with the "flowers". "I just wanted to see if the bills really looked genuine," the accused tried to justify himself at Innsbruck Regional Court. "I definitely had no intention of actually spending it and generally had no real plan."
I just wanted to see if the bills really looked genuine.

Judgment already legally binding
Judge Andrea Wegscheider did not believe the 21-year-old. "You were certainly waiting for an opportunity to spend it," she emphasized in her ruling. This was shown by the fact that he repeatedly carried the money around with him, the judge said. She imposed a fine of 1,200 euros. Legally binding!
