House fire in Lower Austria
Five fire departments battled meter-high flames
On Thursday night, five fire departments with 68 members were deployed to a residential building fire in Hollabrunn in Lower Austria. Meter-high flames were shooting out of all the windows.
Shortly before 3 a.m., the firefighters from the Hollabrunn fire department were alerted to a fire in a residential building. The extension to the former Aumühle caught fire. "Meter-high flames were already shooting out of all the windows. The roof truss was also fully ablaze," reports incident commander Markus Pfeifer from the Hollabrunn fire department. "We knew that the building had been empty for some time, so our first and foremost priority was to protect the neighboring building."
Workshop could be protected
The firefighters launched a comprehensive firefighting attack on the front and rear of the building. The adjacent day workshop was protected.
Five fire departments in action
68 firefighters from five fire departments - including the Hollabrunn, Magersdorf, Oberfellabrunn, Suttenbrunn and Wullersdorf fire departments and the Hollabrunn district fire service - battled the flames. Several police patrols and the Red Cross were also on site. "Fire out" was announced shortly before 4:30 am.
