Truck with 23 tons of scrap metal overturned in Tyrol
Spectacular accident on Wednesday evening in the Tyrolean Oberland: a truck and trailer carrying 23 tons of scrap metal overturned on the B180 Reschenstraße near Pfunds (Landeck district). There were massive traffic obstructions - the driver (43) suffered injuries.
The accident happened shortly after 6.30 pm. The 43-year-old Slovakian was driving the articulated lorry and trailer - according to the police, the combination was carrying a total of 23 tons of scrap metal - on the B180 Reschenstraße in the direction of Italy when the trailer and then the articulated lorry overturned in a left-hand bend.
Wall prevented further crash
"The boundary wall on the right-hand side of the road, including the guardrail, which was torn from its anchoring, prevented the articulated lorry from crashing further, ultimately coming to rest in the swerve of the so-called Kanzelkurve bend," the investigators said.
The 43-year-old driver suffered serious injuries in the accident. After first aid, he was taken to Zams Hospital by ambulance.
