A new rumor about ÖFB team boss Ralf Rangnick is circulating in Germany. Second division club Hamburger SV are said to be interested in the 65-year-old as sports director.
The "Hamburger Abendblatt" newspaper, citing people close to the club, says that Rangnick is keen to take on such a role.
HSV has been playing in the second division for six years and has narrowly missed promotion every year. With 49 points, the traditional club is currently three points behind third place, which entitles them to take part in the relegation play-off for promotion.
Rangnick's plans with Austria
ÖFB fans can breathe a sigh of relief for the time being, however: Rangnick has repeatedly emphasized recently that he is not thinking of giving up his job with the Austrian national team. The focus is on playing a good European Championship in Germany. Rangnick still has a contract until the end of World Cup qualifying in 2025. Should Austria qualify, his contract will automatically be extended until after the World Cup. "I already have the impression that Ralf totally identifies with the team and wants to be as successful as possible with them. He definitely wants to go to the World Cup," said ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel recently.
In recent weeks and months, Rangnick has also been talked about as a coaching candidate at FC Bayern. In the meantime, however, the German record champions are said to have settled on Julian Nagelsmann as their top candidate.
