Serious update glitch
“ID Austria”: Android app has been unusable for days
The "Digitales Amt" app, which only recently replaced the cell phone signature, was not functional for days on cell phones with the Android operating system. An update that was rolled out on Friday was to blame, according to the Federal Computing Center. However, the problem has since been resolved with a new version.
The app is now available to everyone again, it said on Monday evening. The "Digital Office" app was one of the prestige projects of the former State Secretary for Digitalization, Florian Tursky (ÖVP), who recently failed in the Innsbruck mayoral election.
At the beginning of December, it replaced the outdated cell phone signature, which is required to log in for digital official channels. Most recently, more than 1.8 million people were registered with the ID Austria, enabling them to use over 400 connected services.
It was not only the official channels that were not possible in the last few days for owners of an Android cell phone with the latest version of the app installed. Employees of the parliamentary committees were unable to study the files of both current committees of inquiry via the "Digital Office". It was of course still possible to submit a request in the traditional way, but this took much longer.
