Ship is said to have violated regulations

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards seized and diverted a cargo ship with links to Israel on Saturday (see video above). On Monday, the Foreign Ministry justified the measure with alleged violations of shipping regulations.

International rules had been disregarded, said Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani. The response to the authorities had also been "improper". The Iranian Revolutionary Guards therefore finally detained the ship on Saturday. As reported, the cargo ship "MSC Aries" was on its way from the United Arab Emirates to India. It was seized in the Gulf of Oman and diverted into Iranian waters.

Located between two islands
According to the ship tracking service "Tankertracker", the freighter is now located between the islands of Gheshm and Hormuz. It is being held not far from three tankers that were seized last year.

The "MSC Aries" sails under the Portuguese flag, but has an Israeli owner. Since the outbreak of war in the Middle East, conflicts have also increased on the sea routes.

The Strait of Hormuz, a strait about 55 kilometers wide between Iran and Oman, is one of the most important shipping routes for global oil exports. The US government regularly accuses the Iranian navy of obstructing civilian shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and the adjacent Gulf of Oman.
