Indoor swimming pool & childcare
City digs deep into its pockets for the youngest children
In Waidhofen an der Thaya, 5.3 million euros are being invested in the renovation of the indoor swimming pool and the construction of childcare facilities for very young children.
Two projects focusing on children have been launched in Waidhofen an der Thaya. Now that the indoor swimming pool is getting on in years, the five municipalities in the school community are renovating it at a cost of 3.6 million euros. In addition to the stainless steel pool, the entire water technology, the glass façade, the roof, ventilation and lighting will also be replaced. An extension will also be added to create barrier-free access, including a checkroom, shower and toilet.
Teaching children to swim as early as possible
All work should be completed by the start of the fall vacations. While Josef Ramharter, head of the town council, and Marlene Böhm-Lauter, chairwoman of the school community, emphasized the importance of teaching children to swim as early as possible, state councillor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister praised the renovation as exemplary and courageous.
133 million euros for 99 projects
The ground-breaking ceremony also took place for the new building for the very youngest childcare facility at the station site, where 1.7 million euros are being invested. 30 children between the ages of one and three will be cared for here. Teschl-Hofmeister emphasized that 99 projects have been funded with more than 133 million euros since the previous year.
