After victory:
Van Gerwen goes after child prodigy Littler
Michael van Gerwen (34) put a stop to the run of success of child prodigy Luke Littler (17) in the Premier League in Birmingham - and then verbally lashed out at him.
"He played like shit tonight and I beat him, that's the truth. I'm happy with the win and now it's on to the next tournament," said the Dutchman after the 6-3 win in the final.
Because Van Gerwen obviously doesn't like the hype surrounding the young Brit! Especially as he has just been voted one of the "30 most influential people under 30" by Forbes magazine. "With all due respect, he hasn't won anything yet. If people haven't won anything at all, they shouldn't be on a Forbes list," said the three-time world champion, seven-time Premier League winner and long-time number one in the darts world rankings.
"He's 150 tournaments behind me"
Van Gerwen continued: "He's obviously done sensational things for the sport, but he'll always be the one chasing me. He's about 150 tournaments behind me, I'll wait for him to catch up..."
