WAC wants to tie goalie down
Pacult: “500 euros won’t get you far”
Austria Klagenfurt are seven points short of equaling the best result in the Champions League. While the Violets are about to extend a record-breaking duo and a test pilot remains in focus, fan interest is causing disappointment. And the WAC are also busy tinkering with their squad. . .
Austria Klagenfurt bagged their first point in the championship group after a 2-2 draw against Hartberg. If you look at the previous two seasons in the top six, they are still a long way off the record: in 2022/23 they took eight points at the top, in 2021/22 they took six points - with seven games still to play. "It's not a dream team up there," said coach Peter Pacult, who gave his men the day off on Monday.
In the background, Pacult naturally hopes that light will soon be shed on the many expiring contracts. "I've already told those responsible who I want to keep. But we certainly won't get far with an offer of 500 euros more in the contract. . ."
Jaritz chases Zakany
At least two "record players" will soon have their contracts extended:
- "Wuschi" Wernitznig, who has the most Bundesliga appearances of all "Violets" with 376, is approaching automatic renewal with his 20th appearance of the season. "We are close - I assume that he will stay," says managing director Peer Jaekel.
- The same applies to Florian Jaritz, who made his 200th appearance for the "Violets" against Hartberg. This makes the Moosburg native the record player among the active squad - and he could soon become the record man for the "new" Austria Klagenfurt. Only team manager Sandro Zakany has played more games for Waidmannsdorf since the club was founded in 2010 - namely 205. "Jaritz is also showing positive signs of an extension," says Jaekel.
South Korean a topic
South Korean test pilot Min-Young Lee took off for home on Tuesday. "He made a good impression and would be an exciting prospect. We still have to sound out a few things," explained Jaekel, who was concerned by the low fan interest against Hartberg (only 3215 people came!). "Disappointing, considering how important this game was for us. ."
Gütlbauer to stay for the long term
The WAC is currently working hard on the squad. President Dietmar Riegler wants to tie down Lukas Gütlbauer, the upcoming number one, for three seasons - beyond the option for another year.
