Big surprise
Andrei Rublev already eliminated in Monte Carlo!
Defending champion Andrey Rublev was surprisingly eliminated in his opening match at the Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo!
The world number six from Russia lost 4:6, 4:6 to the Australian Alexei Popyrin after 100 minutes. Rublev had won his first and so far only ATP 1000 title in Monaco last year.
Weissborn overcomes opening hurdle
Last year's Austrian doubles finalist, on the other hand, had already overcome the opening hurdle on Tuesday. Sam Weissborn (ATP-50th) defeated the Frenchmen Ugo Humbert/Fabrice Martin (FRA) 7:6(0), 7:6(2) alongside local hero Romain Arneodo.
The duo, who will now face Frenchmen Nicolas Mahut/Edouard Roger-Vasselin again, are only in the tournament thanks to a wild card and last reached the semi-finals in Estoril.
