Snow returned after hot days in Salzburg
After the hot summer days with temperatures around 30 degrees, winter returned today, Wednesday. The western parts of the country in particular were covered in snow.
Last Sunday in Bruck an der Mur in Styria, 30 degrees was measured for the first time this year. This meant that Sunday was the earliest hot day in recorded history. The Pongau town of Bischofshofen came dangerously close to 30 on Sunday. The temperature here was 29.3 degrees.
Just three days later, today, Wednesday, the readings in Bischofshofen were only just under 4 degrees Celsius. Elsewhere, the thermometer in the valley even scratched the freezing point.
Especially in the western parts of the country, for example in Pinzgau, snow even fell down into the valley in some places. In Bad Gastein, it was 1 degree at around 1100 meters above sea level at midday, while the Geosphere Austria measuring station in Saalbach recorded 4.7 degrees. All quite normal for April so far. If it hadn't been for the past few days.
