Maverick Vinales was the fastest man in Austin/Texas on Saturday. The Spanish Aprilia rider first took pole position in the MotoGP for Sunday's Grand Prix (9pm) with a lap record and then went on to win the sprint race in the evening.

Vinales, who had also won the sprint in Portimao three weeks ago, won ahead of his compatriots Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin, who thus extended his lead in the world championship standings.

Fourth place went to 19-year-old KTM youngster Pedro Acosta, who will start the GP from second on the grid. World champion Francesco Bagnaia had to settle for eighth place.
