Bayern complain:
Kane: “The clearest penalty I’ve ever seen”
What's Gabriel doing there? The Arsenal defender caused a stir in the Champions League clash with FC Bayern when he simply picked up a ball that had been released. That had to be a penalty - at least Harry Kane thought so.
"We should have had a clear penalty when the referee whistled, the goalkeeper passed the ball and Gabriel took it in his hand. That's the clearest penalty I've ever seen," the Bayern striker complained about the action.
"It's a crystal clear penalty. He says to our players 'that's a child's mistake, I'm not whistling that in the Champions League quarter-finals'. That's a whole new way of interpreting the rules. It's simply unbelievable," said coach Thomas Tuchel.
Whistle remained silent
Munich had already taken a 2:1 lead in the 67th minute, and with another penalty (Kane had already scored from the spot in the 32nd minute to make it 2:1), the visitors could probably have sealed the deal. However, the referee's whistle remained silent and Leandro Trossard scored instead in the 76th minute to make it 2:2.
Nevertheless, one or two Arsenal fans were probably not 100 percent happy with the referee's decisions. The Gunners had also appealed in vain for a penalty when goalscorer Bukayo Saka was brought down by Manuel Neuer in the penalty area in the final minute. The second leg between the two top clubs will take place on April 17 at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
