Earthquake of magnitude 6.6 off Indonesia’s coast

A strong earthquake occurred in eastern Indonesia on Tuesday. No injuries or material damage were initially reported.

The earthquake in the Moluccas had a magnitude of 6.6, according to the US earthquake observatory USGS. It was registered off the island of Halmahera at a depth of 33 kilometers.

Noaftershocks possible
Injuries or property damage were initially reported, and according to the Tsunami Warning Center in the Pacific, there was no tsunami risk. The Indonesian geophysics authority warned the population of possible aftershocks.

Just over two weeks ago, a magnitude 6.4 quake struck off the coast of the Indonesian island of Java. Several buildings were damaged.
