ÖFB reduces Austria Salzburg’s pyro penalty
Regional league soccer club Austria Salzburg received a letter from the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB). The penalty for the pyro offense in the Cup round of 16, which took place on September 26, 2023 against series champion FC Red Bull Salzburg in Grödig, was significantly reduced.
"Mail from the ÖFB," wrote regional league side Austria Salzburg on social media.
And announced that the penalty for the Violets' pyro offense in the historic first city derby against FC Red Bull Salzburg had been reduced.
"Still a lot, but at least: pyro penalty reduced from a total of 34,300 euros to 24,300 euros," the Austrian team announced.
On September 26 of the previous year, the two clubs from the city of Mozart met in the Cup round of 16 in Grödig. The Austria fans had agreed in advance to pay a large part of the fine themselves and launched several campaigns to raise the money, including selling cheese dumplings at home matches, as reported by the "Krone".
The Bulls were also fined. As the supporters of the Bundesliga leaders also set off pyrotechnics, the club had to pay 1,300 euros.
