Doctor killed by former patient

A 64-year-old doctor was attacked and killed on the grounds of a hospital in Bavaria on Monday evening. The attacker is believed to be a former patient. The man is considered mentally unstable and has been arrested.

A spokesperson for the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters confirmed on Tuesday that a 40-year-old man had been arrested. According to the "Bild" newspaper, the suspect is said to have been treated by the doctor who has now been killed.

Police and the public prosecutor's office only stated on Tuesday that there were indications "that there was professional contact between the victim and the alleged perpetrator several years ago".

Fatal stab wounds
The man had stabbed the doctor with a knife. Despite rapid first aid, the victim could not be saved and succumbed to his serious injuries.

Perpetrator caught by chance
The 40-year-old was caught by the police apparently by chance, as a passing patrol noticed suspicious traces of blood on the suspect. The man was arrested without resistance not far from the scene of the crime, still on the hospital grounds. The attacker comes from northern Germany.

The man is being investigated for murder, it was reported. On Tuesday, an investigating judge ordered the man to be placed in a specialist clinic in Lower Bavaria.
