After attack on ex
Jonathan Majors sentenced to anti-violence training
US actor Jonathan Majors has avoided a prison sentence following his conviction for assaulting his ex-girlfriend. A judge in New York ordered the 34-year-old to undergo 52 weeks of anti-domestic violence training instead on Monday, according to the public prosecutor's office. He must also undergo therapy.
Majors, who played the villain Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel film "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" last year, had been facing a prison sentence of up to one year. In December, he was found guilty by a jury of physically assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.
The film studio Marvel took immediate action after the guilty verdict and banned Majors from further productions. He had actually been scheduled for at least two more film projects in the superhero universe.
Dispute with ex escalated
Majors was arrested in March 2023 after an argument with Jabbari in a car in the New York borough of Manhattan. According to media reports, the aspiring Hollywood actor had received a text message, whereupon Jabbari asked to see the cell phone, assuming that the message came from another woman. A physical altercation ensued.
At the trial, Majors and Jabbari blamed each other through their lawyers.
Majors achieved his breakthrough in 2018 with "The Last Black Man in San Francisco". He won an Emmy television award for his role in the series "Lovecraft Country".
