Hottest in Lower Austria
Heatwave in April: 30 degrees already at midday
The heatwave continues in the country! After the earliest 30-degree day in Austrian measurement history was measured on Sunday, there were again unusually high temperatures on Monday. In Waidhofen an der Ybbs in Lower Austria, almost 30 degrees were already measured at midday!
An extremely mild southerly current and foehn winds are still ensuring high temperatures in Austria at the beginning of the week. Unusually for the time of year, the values were still ten to 15 degrees above those for a typical start to April.
25 degrees reached at around 50 weather stations
By 12.30 p.m., some weather stations were already close to the 30-degree mark, Geosphere Austria reported on Monday. In Waidhofen an der Ybbs in Lower Austria, 29.3 degrees were measured. In Weyer in Upper Austria it was 28.3 degrees shortly after midday and in Feldkirch in Vorarlberg 28.0 degrees. In addition, it was already over 25 degrees at around 50 of Geosphere's almost 280 weather stations.
Highs usually in the afternoon/evening
For comparison: in an average year, the 25 degree mark is first reached in Austria in mid-April. The highest temperatures of the day are expected between 5 and 6 pm. Due to global warming, very warm weather conditions are occurring more and more often early in the year.
Snowfall in Vienna a year ago
The extreme temperatures are also causing irritation in the Austrian capital. As the Austrian severe weather center (uwz) shows in an article on the "X" platform, there was even snowfall around Vienna at the same time last year. It even turned white around the city! "The differences could hardly be much greater," say the meteorologists.
