Farce! Supercup final over after one minute
Turkish soccer has been enriched by another farce. The Fenerbahce players left the pitch on Sunday after just one minute in the Super Cup final against Galatasaray. Immediately before, Mauro Icardi had scored the 1:0 for "Gala". The match in Sanliurfa was abandoned and scored in favor of Fener's opponents. Fenerbahce, who had only fielded their U19 team, protested against the Turkish Football Association with this action.
The club had criticized the timing of the match, four days before the quarter-final first leg at Olympiakos Piraeus in the Conference League, and demanded a postponement. The match was originally scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia in December, but was called off due to protests by both clubs against the organization in Riyadh.
Incidents pile up
In March, an away match between Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor escalated when home fans stormed the pitch and attacked opposing players. A short time later, the Istanbul club discussed leaving the Süper Lig. The association's punishments against Trabzonspor (four home games without a home game) were also criticized as being too lenient.
