“Team Burgenland” was top in the country
Burgenland's gymnasts presented themselves well at the national championships in Dornbirn. After team silver, all-around bronze by Alissa Mörz and junior Helena Zotos, there were also medals in the apparatus finals on Sunday.
Third in the all-around and second on uneven bars on Sunday - Alissa Mörz could actually be happy with that. Especially because, after her foot injury, she was not able to do as many exercises as her competitors in training. But the ambitious gymnast from Mattersburg was annoyed about her performance on the floor after the national championships in Dornbirn: "I made the same mistake on Sunday as I did the day before. Beam is not my apparatus. And I have to say, after the intensive week of training and two all-around competitions in 24 hours, I was a bit knocked out - but all in all it was a good start."
Well in the running for a ticket to the European Championships
Thanks to her good start, the 21-year-old is well in the running for the European Championships, with the second qualifying round taking place in Linz in two weeks' time. Alissa and Co. will start training there again on Tuesday. Before that, the army athlete will undergo the obligatory status check on Monday.
In Dornbirn, Mattersburg's artistic gymnastics club - in the absence of Olympic starter Charlize Mörz, who was ill - showed off with team silver. Alissa said: "I didn't expect that, everyone did their bit!" For example sister Collien or Katharina Gschiel, who won silver on the beam on Sunday. Junior Helena Zotos was also strong, following up her all-around bronze with gold on the balance beam.
