Gailtal valley worried
Plöckenpass: Association calls for future prospects
Since the Plöckenpass was closed, the people of Upper Carinthia have been plagued by worries, which they want to discuss with those responsible on Monday.
Four months have passed since the Plöckenpass was closed due to a rockfall. As reported, political representatives from Italy have guaranteed that the important economic route will be open to traffic by the end of 2024, but people in the Gailtal valley are already worried about the economic, social and cultural consequences.
Round table on Monday
This is why the "So much more Kötschach-Mauthen" association is hosting a public "round table" tomorrow, Monday, at 4 pm in the town hall to provide information and perspectives for the future. Governor Peter Kaiser, Chamber of Commerce President Jürgen Mandl and representatives from Friuli are expected on the podium.
Meanwhile, the Carinthian FPÖ is calling for a Gailtal future fund. "The Gailtal in particular has been disadvantaged over the past ten years. There urgently needs to be compensation for the enormous economic damage caused by this Plöckenpass closure," says FP leader Erwin Angerer. These measures are to be financed by the funds from the sale of the Nassfeld shares - the province received nine million for this in 2022.
