Jakob Stainer Prize for Tyrolean master violin maker
Innsbruck-born Claudia Unterkofler receives the Jakob Stainer Prize 2024 for Early Music. The master violin maker makes and repairs instruments and bows far beyond the country's borders.
Unterkofler was born in Innsbruck in 1979 and is known in the early music scene today primarily for her expertise in historical string instruments and bow making. Her work - whether repair or new production - is in demand far beyond the borders of Tyrol.
With her expertise, Claudia Unterkofler is making a significant contribution to the further development of early music and is following in the tradition of Jakob Stainer with her craft.

At the suggestion of the Cultural Advisory Board for Music, the Tyrolean now receives the Jakob Stainer Prize, endowed with 5100 euros. It is awarded every two years at the Festival of Culture in the fall. The award is named after the Absam violin maker Jakob Stainer (1619 to 1683). It is intended to bring artists for special achievements in the field of early music to the fore.
