Transport companies: Much (exhaust) smoke for nothing

The FPÖ is ramping up its criticism of the state's transport companies at breakneck speed - and is being severely curbed: "Wild speculation has no basis whatsoever", they say.

The Freedom Party sensed a "scandal" due to "interesting speculation" that was doing the rounds in southern Burgenland. According to this, Governor Hans Peter Doskozil had dismissed the managing director of the transport company, Wolfgang Werderits, because he had tried to put the massively loss-making company on a sounder footing by acquiring profitable business areas. FPÖ state chairman Alexander Petschnig spoke of a reported loss of 65 million euros per year.

No dismissal
The reaction to the blue criticism from the state parliament was not long in coming. Doskozil and State Councillor for Infrastructure Heinrich Dorner are fully behind the managing director of the transport company. There could be no question of dismissal. The opposite is the case. "Wolfgang Werderits and his team are currently carrying out a restructuring of public transport that has never been seen before in a region at this speed and on this scale," they emphasize. "This is an extraordinary achievement from which the population will noticeably benefit and which deserves full recognition," Doskozil and Dorner emphasize in unison.

Clear separation of tasks
The state and the Chamber of Commerce have agreed on a clear separation of tasks in the transport services sector. The new "traffic regulation" will come into force in May. "All the details will follow shortly," Doskozil announced.
