Seriously injured
Russian governor stabbed to death
The high-ranking politician of the Kremlin party United Russia, Governor Andrey Chibis, was seriously injured in a knife attack.
According to investigators, Chibis, governor of the north-western Russian region of Murmansk, had met with citizens in the town of Apatity on the Kola Peninsula for a discussion, after which he was attacked with a knife by a resident.
Attacker called to commit crime by "inner voice"
Local media reported that the suspect was a 42-year-old railroad employee who allegedly stated that an inner voice had ordered him to attack the governor. The latter had suffered a stab wound to the abdomen. Assassinations of representatives of the power structure are generally rather rare in Russia.
Wife reassured before hospital
A spokeswoman for the governor said on Russian state television that Chibis had gone to his car himself after the attack. He was then taken to hospital and informed his wife himself in order to calm her down. The suspect is being questioned.
