DSV Leoben is always good for a surprise - that much is certain. In sporting terms, the blast furnace team has surprised everyone with two promotions in the last two years. Off the pitch, the second division club was surprised by accusations against its chairman in the fall. Last Thursday, the abrupt departure of head coach Rene Poms came as a surprise. And now? Now comes the next BIG surprise!

Because Carsten Jancker, the very coach who had to vacate his coaching position at DSV after five rounds of the current second division season for Rene Poms, is returning to the blast furnaces. One replaced the other, and now it's back in the opposite direction. At the time of Jancker's dismissal, some had suspected that the good relations between the DSV board and Poms were the reason for the German's dismissal. Now it is precisely the relationship with the board that is said to have cost the Styrian Poms his job (there is talk of sporting differences)... 

Carsten Jancker is an important part of our success story. He has a great energy level and, above all, has always been very loyal to the club,'' emphasized Managing Director Sport Andreas Hämmerle after Jancker's comeback. For Jancker, once a European Cup finalist as a Rapid player, runner-up with Germany's national team and Champions League winner with FC Bayern, it is a second chance to make a splash as DSV coach. Jancker's contract, which technically still runs from his time before he was sacked (!), is valid until the end of the season for the time being.

Jancker himself was delighted in the club statement: "In soccer, you can and should never look back and I have the feeling that my journey with DSV is not over yet. Returning to the club feels right here and now!''
