After the momentous mass crash at the Tour of the Basque Country, the first reliable information is now available on the extent of the injuries suffered by two top stars! Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard was hit particularly hard with a broken collarbone and several ribs.

As his Visma team announced, apart from the broken bones, the Dane is in stable condition and conscious. However, he will remain in hospital for observation as a precaution. Nevertheless, Vingegaard will definitely be out of action for several weeks - it remains to be seen whether he will be able to go for his third Tour victory in a row in July.

The injuries to former world champion Remco Evenepoel are hardly less serious: the Belgian broke his collarbone and the shoulder blade in his right arm. According to his Soudal team, he will undergo surgery in his Belgian homeland on Friday. Like Vingegaard, he will be out of action for weeks.

Numerous injured professional cyclists
Another star of the scene, Wout van Aert, will be out of action for a longer period of time due to crash injuries.

The Belgian suffered multiple broken bones in the previous week during the one-day race across Flanders. Several other well-known professionals have also suffered serious injuries in recent weeks. And on Sunday, Paris-Roubaix follows, a race with a particularly high risk of crashes.
