Although Raphael Rennhofer from Upper Austria managed to raise the monster budget for the Porsche Carrera Cup, his dream came to nothing. Instead, the "raging teenager" contests the GT4 European Series, in which he will even drive an Aston Martin on Formula 1 circuits.

The 17-year-old Raphael Rennhofer had been able to raise a whopping 500,000 euros, so his path to the prestigious Porsche Cup, in which DTM champion Thomas Preining once competed, was actually clear. But because the Scherer team's second planned driver did not have the monster budget, the project was scrapped - and the Niederneukirchen native's Porsche dream was dashed.

A very good plan B
"Of course it would have been nice," says Raphael, who doesn't want to complain about his plan B either. "It's certainly not bad that I can gain more GT4 experience!" After all, the schoolboy only entered the ADAC GT4 Germany last season and is now back in the Prosport Racing Aston Martin with top driver Hugo Sasse in the GT4 European Series.

"Victories are possible"
The series kicks off on Friday at Circuit Paul Ricard in France, before five more races are scheduled until November. The Formula 1 circuits of Spa, Monza and Jeddah will be among the venues. "We have the potential to be at the front, podiums and victories are possible," says the "raging teenager", who set off straight from school to the airport yesterday.
