Women's ice hockey team:
US pro Schafzahl joins Austria at World Championships
Good news for Austria's women's ice hockey team: Theresa Schafzahl, red-white-red figurehead in the North American professional league PWHL, will strengthen the ÖEHV selection at the home B-World Championship (Division IA) from April 21 to 27 in Klagenfurt in the fight for a first-time promotion to the top division.
As the domestic association announced on Monday, the 23-year-old Styrian has been released by her club Boston.
Two out of six teams advance
The two test matches against Hungary on 12 and 13 April will be played without Schafzahl, but the striker will join coach Alexander Bröms' squad shortly before the start of the World Cup. Austria will face Hungary, France, Norway, South Korea and the Netherlands at the finals, with the two top teams advancing.
