No rescue possible
Major search operation for missing pensioner
Since Sunday afternoon, there has been no trace of a man suffering from dementia in Weyer an der Enns (Upper Austria). A large-scale search operation was initially paused during the night and continued on Monday. Around midday, the mountain rescue team found the 87-year-old - but he could only be recovered dead.
Firefighters, rescue workers, police officers including police service dogs and the rescue dog brigade including drone pilots were deployed in Weyer ob der Enns from the evening hours on Easter Sunday. An 87-year-old man suffering from dementia had been missing since 2.30 pm. A neighbor had last seen him near his house at that time.
Interruption of the search
The search for the pensioner was unsuccessful until 4 a.m., when the operation had to be interrupted. The search was resumed at 7.30 a.m. on Monday - including with three drones.
Found in alpine terrain
Shortly after 12 noon on Easter Monday, the mountain rescue team finally found the missing man in alpine terrain in the area known as the Rotmäuer, near Weyer. Unfortunately, the rescue services called to the scene were only able to determine that the 87-year-old had died. It is still unclear how the pensioner died.
