A chocolate Easter bunny like any other? You won't find that at Confiserie Eibensteiner. Everything is handmade and the figures are not hollow.
Whether for children or adults, the chocolate bunny is part of Easter and has a fixed place in most nests. The Krone visited Confiserie Eibensteiner in Hernals during Easter week and was allowed to look over the shoulder of the confectioners. A total of five apprentices are currently completing their training at the site. One of them is Linda Schörg, who will be Vienna's first chocolatier after completing her apprenticeship in the fall.
Brand new apprenticeship
This apprenticeship has only been around for three years. "The new apprenticeship as a chocolatier guarantees attractive job opportunities, these young skilled workers are urgently needed, and thanks to making the job description more attractive, there is now also a significantly higher influx," says Maria Elisabeth Smodics-Neumann, WKW divisional chairwoman for crafts and trades. Linda Schörg loves her job and has by no means eaten her fill of chocolate: "I also like to snack at home."
Training to become a chocolatier has only been around for three years. Demand is good, and skilled workers have good prospects on the job market.

Combating the skills shortage with an apprenticeship
"Due to the shortage of skilled workers, there is no way around the fact that we train our employees ourselves," says Managing Director Gerald Kontriner. To make matters worse, the industry is a very cost-intensive one. "The machines are expensive," says Kontriner. A lot of the work is done by hand anyway. Like the chocolate Easter bunnies, for example. The quality cannot be compared with that of supermarket goods. Apart from the significantly higher price, there is another difference: while chocolate bunnies are usually hollow on the inside, the bunnies from Confiserie Eibensteiner are filled with the finest nougat. Connoisseurs have to pay a hefty 10.90 euros for one bunny (115 g).
Two chocolate bunnies per person
The "Krone" was in the store at Währinger Straße 135. A few days before Easter, there is a lot going on in this lovely store. What are the bestsellers? "A colorful mix, but of course the chocolate Easter bunnies," says the saleswoman. This trend is also reflected in the WK Wien's balance sheet: on average, two Easter bunnies are given away per person. Enjoy the taste!
