Wimmer: “I lacked the instinct”
Austria and Blau-Weiß Linz drew 0-0 on Good Friday. However, the "Veilchen" were outnumbered for a good 75 minutes. Of all people, starting XI debutant Moritz Wels was sent off.
Michael Wimmer (Austria coach): "We would have liked to have won the game. The 15th minute (sending off, note) threw the plan into disarray a bit. But I still think it was clear that we played to win despite being outnumbered, that we wanted to win the game, that we invested more in the game. We tried to create chances through ball possession, which we weren't so successful at. But that's always difficult against a deep-lying opponent. We didn't allow much at the back, the team defended well."
The Violets coach commented on Wels' exclusion: "I would have liked him to play longer. Yes, you can give the first yellow. But the second one just a few minutes later - I think he slips away there too. Of course you can give it in principle. But I think it's a tough decision. Maybe you could have let it go if you had a bit of flair. That's what I was missing."
GeraldScheiblehner (Blue & White coach): "We put in a very good performance over 90 minutes, we were right in the game, had a top chance, which we unfortunately missed. With the yellow card, everyone expected Blau-Weiß to take command - as the promoted team in Vienna at Austria. If you take a close look at the game and the teams, you know that's not to be expected. We're very happy with the point and the performance."
