Furey and Fischer
KAC’s magical apprentices are about to take the master’s test
Before the season, coaches Kirk Furey and David Fischer took over the KAC's fighting team directly from the farm team - and led them to the final of the ICE League. The duo see the squad as a family and are chasing their third trophy with the Red Jackets.
Hit like a bomb! The coaches Kirk Furey and David Fischer at the KAC have. The duo were promoted internally from the farm team before the season and are coaching their very first season at the highest level of ice hockey. But since their recent run to the final, "F&F" have to be described as sorcerer's apprentices. They will be able to take their master's exam in the final on April 5.
Positive feeling in the dressing room
But head coach Furey remains grounded as usual. "We said from the start that we weren't looking back and we weren't looking far ahead. But I couldn't be prouder," says the 48-year-old Canadian, who was able to bring a positive feeling into the dressing room with the American Fischer.
Barbecue and baby breaks
Before the semi-final against Pustertal, Furey invited all the players and their families to his garden for a barbecue: "The family is the most important thing. We're like one big KAC family - where everyone plays their part in our success." There were also breaks for Postma and Hundertpfund after the births of their babies.
We don't care who our opponent will be in the final! We'll also focus on our strengths in the final - switching play and speed.
KAC-Trainer KIRK FUREY
No "bad cop"
Is there a good cop and a bad cop in the coaching team? "No," smiles Furey. "We complement each other well, especially when it comes to emotions. We also rarely have to get loud, because everyone pulls together." Fischer agrees: "Working hard and winning - that's what the boys like!"
Tough sessions planned
There will also be tougher sessions in the match-free period until the start of the final. "So that we're fully ready on April 5," says Furey, who, like Fischer, won the championship twice as a player with the KAC - and is now eager for the third time together.
