Investigation in Ötztal
Fake families scammed out of expensive sports equipment
A sports store in the Tyrolean Ötztal valley was the target of crooks posing as vacationing families. In two cases, various items of sports equipment were borrowed but not returned. The police are investigating.
In one case the perpetrators pretended to be a family from Romania, in the second case they pretended to be German vacationers. According to the police, ski and snowboard equipment was rented from the sports store in Obergurgl on March 23 under false pretenses. The crooks claimed to be staying in an apartment in Zwieselstein.
Around 5000 euros in damage
However, the families did not show up on the agreed return date. The store owner then pressed charges. The damage amounted to around 5000 euros. The police are investigating. A check of the personal details provided by the perpetrators was unsuccessful.
