Lionel Messi reveals: “I’ll stop when …”

Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi does not make the end of his career dependent on a certain age. "It will be the moment when I realize that I'm no longer performing, that I'm no longer having fun, that I can no longer help my teammates," said the world champion in an episode of the Saudi Arabian podcast Big Time published on Wednesday.

"I'm very self-critical. When I feel it's time to take that step, I'll do it - regardless of age." The Inter Miami striker celebrates his 37th birthday in three months' time. "As long as I feel good, I'll keep playing. Because that's what I like and what I can do."

Messi doesn't want to think about his professional future after the end of his professional career just yet. "Today I'm trying to enjoy everyday life without thinking about the future. I don't have a clear idea yet. I hope I can keep playing," he said.

"When the time is right, I will find the path that fulfills me - a new role." Due to a muscle injury, the world footballer recently missed the Argentinian national team's two friendlies against El Salvador and Costa Rica in the USA.
