Meter-high flames
Dead man rescued from burning house by fire department
A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday morning in the Bregenzerwald municipality of Hittisau in Vorarlberg: a house there burned down completely - a man could only be rescued dead.
The alarm went off for the fire department at 5 a.m. on Wednesday: when the firefighters arrived at the house in Hittisau, the property was already fully engulfed in flames that were several meters high. A 48-year-old resident of the house could only be rescued dead from the rubble on the first floor by the emergency services.
A 50-year-old man, the victim's brother, was able to escape the flames in time and leave the house. He survived the house fire unharmed. The cause of the fire is still completely unclear and police investigations are ongoing. Around 20 emergency vehicles and between 150 and 170 firefighters were on site.
