Horror at dawn: A 27-year-old woman was hit by an unknown driver on a crosswalk in Linz at around 6.45 a.m. on Sunday - and then simply left lying there. The police are now looking for witnesses to the accident, which happened at the Freistädter Straße/Zerzerstraße junction.

The Linz police are looking for witnesses after a hit-and-run accident: a 27-year-old female pedestrian was run over on a crosswalk on Freistädter Straße in the provincial capital on Sunday morning, and the driver made off.

A cyclist (49) discovered the injured woman lying on a grass verge a short time later. She took her home as the 27-year-old did not initially want to call for help, according to the police.

Mom called rescue
However, the injured woman's mother then called the emergency services. Her daughter was taken to Kepler University Hospital.

Witnesses to the accident, which is believed to have taken place at around 6.45 a.m., are now asked to contact the Linz Traffic Inspectorate on 059133/454800.
