Goal after eight seconds
Wirtz is one second short of Baumgartner’s record
Totally crazy! Just as Christoph Baumgartner set the world record for the fastest goal ever scored in an international match in Austria's friendly against Slovakia on Saturday, he almost lost it again just two hours later. But it took Florian Wirtz a miserable eight (!) seconds to score against France.
The principle was similar to Baumgartner's goal in Bratislava: kick-off, support - goal. While "Baumi" needed (just over) six seconds to play half the Slovakian team dizzy and finish, Wirtz - after a long pass as an assist from Toni Kroos - needed a whole eight seconds before he shot from a similar position to Baumgartner and scored in the corner.
Kroos assist on comeback
The game against France was a fresh start for Germany. Team boss Julian Nagelsmann made seven changes from the disgraceful performance against Austria in Vienna.
Among others, Toni Kroos was back in the match. He played well. And shone as an assist provider after just a few seconds.
