Shaking head over F1 team: “Never heard of it before”
The fact that Williams does not have a replacement chassis available in Australia and that Logan Sargeant cannot take part in the race for this reason is causing a shake of the head in Formula 1. "I've never heard that there is no replacement chassis in the third race of the season," said TV expert Günther Steiner.
Albon lost control of his car in turn six during the first practice session on Friday and crashed into the track wall. He demolished his car in the process, but was able to get out on his own. Because Williams does not have a replacement chassis in Australia, the team can only field one car this weekend, which will be driven by Albon, who finished twelfth in qualifying on Saturday. The US American Logan Sargeant had to give up his place.
"I would have made the same decision. You have to look at the statistics of the last few years. Alex did a very good job last year. The team always comes first," emphasized Steiner in an interview with ServusTV. For Sargeant, it is of course "incredibly difficult". "If I were him, I would ask why there is no replacement chassis," says the former Haas team boss. "I find that surprising. I've never heard that there is no spare chassis in the third race."
Marko: "The right decision"
Head of Red Bull Motorsport Helmut Marko also understands why Williams has opted for Albon. "Alex is clearly the faster driver. That is absolutely the right decision," said the Austrian.
