Run-off election on March 24
Record! 15,203 polling cards applied for in Salzburg
15,203 absentee ballots have been requested for the mayoral run-off election this Sunday in the city of Salzburg - more than ever before. For the first round of voting two weeks ago, there were 13,741 polling cards.
However, conclusions about an increase in voter turnout on Sunday are only possible to a limited extent, as the Easter vacations also begin this weekend. In the first round on March 10, the voter turnout was 54.3 percent. 112,733 people are eligible to vote.
Deputy Mayor Bernhard Auinger from the SPÖ and local councillor Kay-Michael Dankl from the KPÖ plus are still up for election the day after tomorrow. With 17,547 votes (29.4 percent), Auinger was only just ahead of Dankl, who received 16,726 votes (28.0 percent), meaning the difference was only 821 votes or 1.4 percentage points.
