Drunk driver ignores red light – hit by car
Serious traffic accident late Monday afternoon in Innsbruck. A 29-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing and suffered serious injuries. The Somali man, who was under the influence of alcohol, apparently wanted to cross the road despite a red traffic light.
The accident happened at around 4.30 p.m. in the east of the city. According to the police, the Somali man, who was heavily intoxicated, tried to cross the road at the Haller Straße/Schützenstraße/Schusterbergweg junction despite the red light. He was hit by the car of a 28-year-old local man.
Injured man taken to hospital by ambulance
The 29-year-old Somali suffered serious injuries and was taken to Innsbruck Hospital by ambulance after receiving first aid at the scene of the accident. The driver escaped with a scare - but his car was damaged.
