Accident caused by overtaking: five injured

Overtaking, swerving to avoid oncoming traffic - and in the end three vehicles were involved in an accident, all three drivers and two passengers were injured, four fire departments, police, ambulance and air rescuers were called out.

At 4.35 p.m. on Monday, a 19-year-old driver overtook a car with a two-axle trailer driven by a 55-year-old man on the Mölltal Bundesstraße in Mühldorf. As a 20-year-old was driving his car in oncoming traffic, the 19-year-old had to take evasive action, braked, tried to turn right back into the lane, but hit the trailer - which skidded along with the car. The trailer skids across the oncoming lane and the car ends up in the ditch. The 20-year-old's car crashes head-on into the trailer.

All three drivers, a passenger (15) in the 20-year-old's car and a man (52) sitting in the 55-year-old's car were injured.

The 52-year-old passenger had to be flown to Villach Regional Hospital by the RK1 rescue helicopter team. The other injured persons were transported by the ambulance service.

The vehicles involved sustained enormous material damage. Four fire departments were deployed with 60 firefighters. The main road was closed while the vehicles were being recovered.
