Second division teams out
Oberwart well on the way to the quarter-finals
After the derby is before the next round: Oberwart's basketball team, who came out on top against the Eisenstadt Dragonz on Saturday, will host the Timberwolves on Thursday. The next "must win" in the fierce battle for the two remaining quarter-final tickets.
BC Vienna leads the Superliga intermediate round with 17 points, the Gunners are second (and therefore currently in a play-off place) - level on points with Kapfenberg in third. Oberwart, who still have a clean sheet in the qualifying round, cannot afford any weaknesses in the remaining six rounds. "Gunner" Derreck Brooks said: "We played hard and are now focused on winning the remaining games and getting better."
Bitter end for red and gold second division team
It's been a long time since the Burgenland second-division clubs have all had to bow out in the first play-off round. It was the first time in seven years of the 2nd Bundesliga that the Blackbirds were eliminated in the quarter-finals. Sebastian Koch, Bernhard Koch, Christoph Astl and Co. fought to the end in the third game against the Wörthersee Pirates. Which was not enough for the defending champions.
Big thanks to the fans
The team gave a huge thank you to the fans, who had given them incredible support in Klagenfurt and throughout the season. Mattersburg also received a lot of support throughout the season, but were eliminated in the quarter-finals in the third game in Kufstein. Rocks player Nikolaus Bugnyar said: "Unfortunately, we missed the start of the second half a bit, fell behind and couldn't make up for it. Congratulations to our opponents - it was a good fight, but someone has to lose."
