According to calls from passers-by, an unannounced demonstration took place in front of the Carinthian provincial government in Klagenfurt on Sunday. On arrival, the police discovered a banner reading "No mosque in Klagenfurt" as well as numerous flyers critical of Islam.

After the police received a report of a demonstration at Arnulfplatz in Klagenfurt at around 12.45 p.m. on Sunday, a patrol made its way to the Carinthian provincial government located there. "Although no demonstrators were found, a banner measuring around seven by five meters with the inscription 'No mosque in Klagenfurt' was hoisted between two flagpoles," said the police.

Several cell phone videos secured
There were also two smoking smoking pots and numerous flyers with Islam-critical content on site. "As the flyers contained references to the Muslim fast-breaking event at the exhibition grounds, the event was monitored until the end of the evening without incident. Several cell phone videos were secured, in each of which eight presumably masked persons could be seen who were responsible for raising the banner and lighting the smoke pots," said the provincial police directorate.

According to the cell phone videos, the demonstrators made their way towards the cathedral garage. However, a manhunt was unsuccessful. No one was injured and nothing was damaged. Further investigations are being carried out by the State Office for State Protection and Counter Extremism.
