Punch of the week

From the Breitenlee allotment to the Ivory Coast

Slowly but surely, the first consequences of the SPÖ allotment garden affair in Breitenlee are making themselves felt. This also applies to our Punch and Judy of the week.

There is Petra Bayr, member of the National Council and proud owner of two allotment gardens in the notorious SPÖ commune in Donaustadt. She still won't reveal how she was able to secure two plots of land there. "The purchase of the second plot resulted from the opportunity to acquire one on the waterfront and move," is the succinct answer from the seasoned comrade. How convenient for the "jetsetter".

Incidentally, she is not under investigation in this juicy case. So everything is fine? At least the delegates at the district conference of the SPÖ-Favoriten see it differently. Bayr only received 104 out of 200 votes there. A measly 54.5 percent. Five votes short of an absolute debacle. Nevertheless, she will be the first candidate for the SPÖ in the important constituency of Vienna South (Favoriten, Simmering, Liesing) in the National Council elections in the fall. Incidentally, none of the comrades from the district party presidium wanted to comment on this, nor did our Punch of the Week himself.

Incidentally, after the embarrassing election defeat, the busy MP headed south of the Sahara to the Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso. Very important appointments, or rather on the run?
