Man seriously injured
Paraglider crashes into avalanche barrier in Tyrol
A Tyrolean paraglider pilot was seriously injured in an accident on Friday: On Innsbruck's Nordkette mountain range, the 29-year-old was doomed by the thermals, whereupon he got his legs caught in an avalanche barrier.
The local man took off from the "Nordkette 2" launch site on Innsbruck's Seegrube shortly before midday on Friday. The 29-year-old had just pulled up his paraglider and was entering the take-off phase when a stall occurred. As a result, his paraglider lost height uncontrollably and the pilot got stuck in the avalanche barrier below the launch site after a few meters.
The man crashed into the obstruction and seriously injured his legs. A witness gave the injured man first aid. He was then flown by emergency helicopter to the hospital in Hall in Tirol.
