With the “Krone” to the cracker against Turkey
The countdown to EURO 2024 in Germany is ticking. And Austria's national team is testing for the real thing: after the game in Bratislava against Slovakia (March 23), team boss Ralf Rangnick's squad will play their first home game of the European Championship year on March 26 (8:45 pm). And it's a real cracker, because Turkey will be visiting the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna and you can be there with the "Krone"!
Austria and Turkey are meeting for the 13th time in history. To date, the ÖFB's record is slightly negative with five wins, one draw and six defeats. The last match so far was in 2016 (also as a European Championship preparation match), when the Turks won 2:1 in Vienna.
Debutant in the red-white-red kit
Stefan Lainer's return to the national team after being diagnosed with lymph node cancer is also very pleasing. As things stand, Rapids' Christoph Lang is the only debutant. Marko Arnautovic has to miss out this time due to injury. Speaking of which: Injured superstar David Alaba will also join the ÖFB team for three days around the Turkey match. There is still (faint) hope that the captain will be fit again in time for the European Championship after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture in December. The tournament kicks off for Austria on June 17 in Düsseldorf against France's star ensemble.
