Autopsy ordered
Old farmhouse on fire, fears for residents
Following the major fire in the Tyrolean Wildschönau (Kufstein district) on Thursday night, a body was discovered in the ruins of the fire in the afternoon. An autopsy must now clarify whether it is the previously missing resident. The old farmhouse had burnt down completely during the night.
The fire department was alerted to the building fire in the Oberau district shortly before 2 a.m. "When we arrived, the old farmhouse was already fully engulfed in flames," said incident commander Rainer Naschberger in an interview with the "Krone" newspaper.
No water supply on site
Well over 100 firefighters then battled the huge fire inferno. An enormous challenge! "The house is quite remote. There is no water supply there. We had to lay two long pipes and set up a shuttle service with tankers," continues Naschberger.
Great fear for one resident
As the "Krone" learned in the early morning, two people were living in the building, which was ultimately completely destroyed. One person was apparently not at home. The whereabouts of the second resident were initially unknown. "Investigations are still underway. It cannot be ruled out that this person was still in the building at the time the fire broke out," the police told "Krone" in the morning.
In the afternoon, a body was finally discovered in the ruins of the fire. According to the police, it is still unclear whether it is actually the deceased resident. An autopsy has been ordered. Only this can provide final clarity.

Power line ran over the house
It was a difficult operation for the fire department. Also because "a power line ran over the building and collapsed", explains incident commander Naschberger. During the day, the fire was still being extinguished.
The ruins of the fire were considered to be in danger of collapsing, which initially made investigations on site more difficult. Parts had to be gradually removed with a crane. The work is still ongoing. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
