Worker fell 8 meters through roof hatch onto machine

A terrible accident at work on Tuesday in Innsbruck: while cleaning the roof of a company building, a Romanian (36) fell through a roof hatch and fell eight meters before hitting a machine. The man suffered serious injuries.

The fatal accident happened at around 9.45 a.m. in Innsbruck-Amras. According to the police, the 36-year-old Romanian, an employee of a cleaning company from the Tyrolean lowlands, was cleaning the windows on the roof of the company.

Fell from the ladder, smashed through the roof hatch
"The worker was on a wooden ladder at the time. Suddenly, he lost his balance and fell backwards, taking the ladder with him," said the investigators. As a result, the 36-year-old hit a Plexiglas skylight, smashed through it and fell about eight meters onto a machine below.

Taken to hospital by ambulance
The Romanian suffered serious injuries. He was first treated by the emergency doctor at the scene and then taken to the hospital in Innsbruck by ambulance.
