103-year-old driver on the road without a license

A 103-year-old Italian driver in the province of Ferrara in the Emilia-Romagna region has been fined for driving with an expired license and without insurance.

The woman, who was born in 1920, was stopped by the carabinieri in the municipality of Bondeno at around 1 a.m. on Monday.

The Carabinieri had been alerted by a witness who had seen the woman's car moving in circles in a dangerous manner, as reported by the Italian news agency ANSA. According to the police, the woman was disoriented and kept driving through the same streets. The investigation revealed that her driver's license had been expired for two years.

The 103-year-old was fined in accordance with the Highway Code and her vehicle was taken away by a tow truck. Finally, she was escorted home by the carabinieri.
