Extensive program
“Opening up the state parliament more to the population”
A super election year awaits citizens in 2024. State Parliament President Robert Hergovich has also declared it the "Year of Democracy" in Burgenland. Numerous activities are planned.
"The focus is on protecting and strengthening democracy. I therefore want to open up the state parliament more and invite all Burgenlanders to visit it," said Hergovich. For this reason, the guided tours of the building have also been redesigned. Bookings are made via a new online tool - which can also be used to take advantage of cultural offers. According to Hergovich, between 4,000 and 5,000 visitors are expected to be welcomed to the Landtag this year. Last year there were around 2000.
There are also other items on the program: On May 28, there will be an event for young voters in the run-up to the European elections. On July 1, Hergovich will take over the chairmanship of the Conference of Provincial Parliament Presidents for six months. As a special highlight, there will be an "Open Day" in the Landhaus on September 15 to mark "Democracy Day". At the same time, the "Youth in Parliament" format is being expanded.
